One of the key aims of the Essex Clerks Association is to offer clerks the opportunity to meet and share experiences, and a chance to socialise with colleagues, although currently this will be mostly virtual!
We recognise that the role of the clerk can be an isolated one, but with well over 400 clerks in Essex, there shouldn’t be any reason for clerks to feel that they are alone.
Our next face to face event to be held will be the Networking Event in June 2027. Please see the Meetings for all Clerks page for further details and documents from this year’s event.
Our speaker this year was Pam Langmead who talked about The Clerk’s role in the new Ofsted framework.
Effective governance is back with a vengeance in the renewed Ofsted framework introduced in November 2025. This workshop focused on the changes to Ofsted inspection and, in particular, what clerks can do to support their governing bodies and ensure that they are inspection-ready.
During the session there was plenty of chance for discussion and sharing good practice.
Pam Langmead has been a clerk in Essex for 23 years, was a Chair of Governors for 16 years, and is the Professional Officer for the Essex Primary Headteachers’ Association. She was proud to be one of the founder members of the ECA and was delighted to be working with clerks again this year at the annual networking event.
